Charlie Rangel is a wakeupcall to the legislature and the nation. The legislature because they see that even with decades behind you, charges will incur and your legacy may not survive; the nation sees that we are seeing why influxes of groups.  While some editorial associates of mine coin Representative Charlie Rangel as things such as “a poster child for term limits”, in reality the bottom line to Rangel is a bit more complicated than that. Representative Charlie Rangel, who is literally a legislative sitting duck right now, has created a wave storm that will of course affect the legislature in November.  However, if change really needs to come about, there are more factors which can result from Rangel other than poll numbers and votes; the one thing this Administration offered so many months ago: Change.

Think back to the situations regarding ObamaCare and the recent Financial Bill and tell me if real change could not come from this administration if they wanted to.  With activities such as forcing previously labeled Pro-Lifer Bart Stupak, we can see this majority having incredible power but not using them for the positivity they once promised.   The real needs can be seen from the Rangel situation that they are more required within the walls as much as society.

So why, since this power to really make change within the legislative walls is obviously there, is change not happening from within?  The reason why, in addition to the power being within the legislators themselves, is that we allow them to excuse the reasons why, for instance, there are no term limits on committee leadership because of the education you receive from being there.

However, if we look outside the walls and see predecessor training programs, we can see a mentor program for new committee leadership to meet with past members would allow the intel to be passed on as well as create another relationship within the legislature.  After all, with the real world training successors on a daily basis, why are committees any different if they are to pass on the “knowledge” which these legislators supposedly receive from years of attendance?

The bottom line to this is the response to Rangel and all of the legislators who cross the line through their legislative actions need to be solutions that are not suggested but demanded by the nation’s voice and its vote. There are many factors outside of the legislative halls which would assist the nation’s government in becoming the pinnacle it one was and will reflect the actions, laws and objectives our nation believes in.  If we really want to affect our legislative objectives, we need to invest aspects that are from the real world in order to not only infect the situation with a little reality but also hopefully an increase in ethics.  Rangel is not a lone duck; he’s just one of many in our legislative pond.

And might I also suggest a Mandatory Retirement Age.

Public officials (servants) are not put into office to acquire wealth, but to represent the will of the people. Public servants too often behave as if acquiring wealth is their primary goal once they get into office.
